ABOUT THE BEESTON PLOUGHSHARE
Beeston Community Enterprises Ltd. was formed with a single purpose – to purchase the Ploughshare and run it for the benefit of the village.
The campaign began in earnest in March 2016, shortly after the Ploughshare had closed. A village meeting was called and there was unanimous agreement that every effort should be made to save the pub.
HOW WE DID IT
By December 2017, we had raised over £150,000 via a successful share offer, fundraising events and grants. A further share option was launched in April 2018, where we aimed to raise the additional funds required to purchase the pub.
By January 2019 the opportunity finally presented itself to purchase the pub and with just enough funds to do so, we brought back the pub from the brink of redevelopment.
Beeston Community Enterprises Ltd. is registered in England, Registration No. 7332, with the registered address being The Ploughshare, The Street, Beeston, Kings Lynn, Norfolk PE32 2NF.
We’re fortunate enough to have an experienced and capable management committee to guide the running of Beeston Community Enterprises Ltd. You can read more about them below.
A PROUD HISTORY
Beeston’s pub can boast a history stretching back almost 500 years. There has been an alehouse on the site of the Ploughshare since at least 1585, pulling its first pint when Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne and Shakespeare was a boy!
The oldest part of the current building dates back to 1620 and is full of centuries of memories and village tradition. Sadly, the pub closed its doors in early 2016 and houses were been built on what was the beer garden.
